360 Degree Aerial Panoramic Photography

By Oxfordshire’s leading aerial 360 panoramic photographer

What is a 360 Panoramic Photo?

A 360 panoramic photo is comprised of multiple photographs taken from exactly the same sport in all directions. This allows people to view every single aspect, be it up, down to the right or left from a single photo.

Because of this 360 degree constraint these images are best viewed on a computer, tablet or mobile device which allows this photo to be moved around using your finger, mouse or simply the direction of your mobile!

Once created though they can be used on websites, Facebook (but not Instagram) and also added by us as Google Trusted Pro Photographers to your Google local business page.

They can also be used as the basis for a ‘Tiny Planet’ photo (see example below) which can make your subject seem to be at the centre of the whole world.

Having done work for Google Street View over a number of years (we have literally hundreds of our panoramas on Google Maps) we have now applied the photography method to aerial photos by drone. They work especially well for Farms, Country Estates and Attraction Centres and can really help people to understand fully the location. It is almost if you are flying a drone and can decide what view you want, a type of Drone’s Eye!

How is it done?

To create a 360 panoramic image multiple images are then stitched together to give the viewer a complete panoramic view from that location in every single direction from straight up to straight down. This feature is available on some drones as a built in feature with the drone creating the panorama for the flier. However, these type of images are generally of low quality with stitching errors and also great chunks of the sky missing. Those are what you may see offered by other drone operators.

When we create a drone 360 panoramic photograph we stitch all the images ourselves and also include a full sky which is usually taken using a separate camera (Drone cameras cannot generally look up more than about 15 degrees) The stitched image is then edited at a very high resolution to produce the finished product that is called an equirectangular photo. (see an example below which shows what a photo is like before setting up on a website. The image below is the actual Google Maps Version with the 360 interactivity working. To allow this to feature on your website special website hosting will be required which will be provided for your 360 images at no extra cost. The example below is the fully interactive version which can be supplied with the embedding code to be installed on your website. It can also be supplied with your logo as per our example.

Having been advised of the area and location that you require a 360 panoramic photograph of we will then discuss with you what you hope to achieve with your photo. This will help us decide what would be the best time of day and location for your very special photograph.

Using the power of computer simulations using Google Earth we can show you the type of view the finished product will produce at specific heights, locations and even times of the day and year.

Weather can often present problems in getting the right sky for your shoot so to help we keep a selection of pre photographed skies than be edited into your finished 360 panorama and Yes, we will ensure that the sun is in the right place!
